Title: | Rain water harvesting: a design for IIM Bangalore | Authors: | Nisha Jayaram | Keywords: | Water conservation;Rain water harvesting | Issue Date: | 2008 | Publisher: | Indian Institute of Management Bangalore | Series/Report no.: | PGP-CCS-P8-147 | Abstract: | Water, a most precious commodity, is in short supply the world over. Excess dependence on ground and surface water has resulted in an alarming decrease in the quantity and quality of water available. Environmentalists have issued dire warnings of water shortages in a few years to come, if our water consumption habits do not take a turn for the better. Rain water harvesting is an effective way for individuals to contribute towards water conservation. It is a simple and inexpensive way to obtain water for some, if not all, basic needs of human beings. The IIM Bangalore campus, sprawling over a hundred acres, offers large and excellent catchment areas, making it ideal for the implementation of a rain water harvesting system. This report explains one possible design for the same. When the proposal for this project was submitted, it was hoped that implementation of the system would be possible before the submission of this report. However, just after submission of the proposal, a committee for discussion of water conservation efforts on the campus, including rain water harvesting, was set up. The committee is expected to come to a conclusion in September. As a result, this project has not yet been implemented. However, this plan will be presented to the said committee, with hopes of implementation in the months to come. | URI: | http://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/123456789/10015 |
