Semiconductor devices are increasingly making their presence felt in almost every walk of modem life. As the size of the devices keep getting smaller and smaller, the semiconductor chips are getting more powerful and versatile, creating more innovative applications and newer markets and thereby driving the economic growth. This project is an attempt to understand the current scenario in the global semiconductor industry as well as the emerging trends and to apply the findings to identify the factors that will drive further growth in the nascent semiconductor design services industry in India. The study tracks the cyclical nature of the semiconductor industry and the historic trends in the Indian market to provide a backdrop for the analysis. It also looks at the major components of the design service industry with the pros and cons of each of these segments. A comparison of the Chinese semiconductor industry along with the analysis to understand the reasons behind its dramatic growth is also included. The final section covers the recommendations for the semiconductor design service companies in India and the changes that are required to bring about increased growth and development of the industry in India.
