Resource management models for software service firms

Abstract

The Indian software service industry is at the crossroads - facing large market demand as well as global competition. The availability of the right human resource talent as well as cost efficiencies in resource management (planning, recruitment and allocation of employees) is going to be a critical determinant of the success or failure of these players. This project studied the evolution of the resource management process and its current form in a large software service firm, ABC Systems, which is one of the largest IT service providers from India. The project was done through a combination of qualitative and quantitative approach, including interviews, data collection and analysis. It goes on to recommend large software service firms to follow a more systematic approach to resource management in order to improve their efficiencies. They are also recommended to structure their divisions and business processes like resource management to maintain a balance between empowerment and control as they face greater growth opportunities along with intense competition from global players.
