Abstract

Summer internship at COGNIZANT TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS (CTS) was for 8 weeks duration at Chennai. I was allocated to the Data warehousing and Business Intelligence (DWftBI) practice, a horizontal at CTS. I completed 2 projects, each of 4 weeks duration.1. ROI Calculator for BI implementation (COMBAT Tool): This tool aims at calculating an estimate for return on investment for BI implementation. By means of customer inputs on key questionnaire tool assess the performance of current DWftBI implementation. Then it rolls the score on technical stack to key business parameters. It then calculates the max. possible percentage improvement. Finally it asks factual questions on the current cost and benefits figures for the existing DWftBI application. With the information on current costs and benefits along with maximum possible percentage improvement tool calculates incremental costs and benefits. From these figures it calculates various financial parameters like ROI, NPV, Pay back period and IRR.2. BI Readiness Framework (RAMBO Tool): This tool helps in generating reports which indicate the current maturity and score levels on key dimensions for BI readiness. This works on three tier architecture. Tier I collects information on key questions for getting information about the current status of client on the BI implementation. Tier 2 uses various statistical methods like ordinal and logistic regression methods to roll up the user responses to a numerical score. Tier 3 uses Gartner framework to map the scores to key dimensions namely User BI and IT BI activism. This is 2*2 BI readiness framework matrix and depending on where the client lies there are set of well defined action plan. Other reports rate client on the key dimensions and also compares the client's score with industry benchmarks .
