The customized software services market is a large volume market. Many types of services, such as those involved in the maintenance of data/legacy systems, are low-value services. The Indian software industry has for the most part specialized in these relatively low-value activities. Domestic rather than foreign firms led Indian software growth. India’s software exports are largely the products of Indian firms. Throughout the history of the industry in India, one factor that has always been core to its success is the ever increasing IT outsourcing trend.
