The primary objective of the study is to first find out the reasons for the non profitable performance and the feasibility of leveraging the postal department’s network to generate new sources of revenue. The scarce information available about the postal department’s initiatives into the rural sector encouraged us to take up the study and examine how public private partnerships may help the postal department in generating income and also extend its services to the rural customers. The methodology followed included a preliminary study of secondary data related to the post office, its structure and a study of the services it offers followed by primary data collection through live interviews with various middle-level and senior level management of companies. While a thorough study of the secondary data already available from the post office, the internet and printed journals and publications, we have identified a few promising areas of co-operation with the private players, and made a deeper study of the same. The primary data collection by interviewing strategic thinkers of different companies gave us direction in the project and also helped us in studying the feasibility of various options including partnerships with the post office.en_US
