Our purpose when we started this project was to gain knowledge on the HR practices followed in large, successful organizations. Both of us are quite interested in looking at HR as a career option, and we realize that though we get plenty of exposure to other fields of study such as finance and marketing, besides also having backgrounds in IT, we have had limited exposure to HR as a field of study and as a career option. We wanted to rectify this imbalance. When the opportunity to carry out a complete study under Prof. N.M. Agrawal presented itself, we grasped at it. We determined to clarify our doubts through the course of a detailed study, the outcomes of which would be detailed cases on the HR practices of two successful, knowledge based companies, which were later selected to be TCS and Wipro. These companies were selected because they were not only hugely successful, but also had well defined HR systems in place, which we could study and gain insights into. Besides, the IT sector presents some of the most interesting HR challenges to companies in India. This report presents the culmination of our efforts in the form of two cases contained herein: • Managing People – The Wipro Way • Managing People – The TCS Way We would like to thank Professor Agrawal for his continued patience and support throughout the duration of the project, especially in the initial stages when we went through a difficult phase of the project. We would also like to thank Professor Vasanthi Srinivasan, IIMB, for her inputs and time at crucial moments.en_US
