dc.description.abstract | 2. Synopsis 2.1 Introduction GE Medical Systems has contracted with Manipal Hospital to provide consulting services to enable Manipal Hospital to improve it's products and processes. The following project was one of the projects that Manipal Hospital requires GE's consulting services. 2.2 Manipal Health Card In Dec 2000 Manipal Academy of Higher Education had designed and launched a product called "Manipal Health Card" in Mangalore and other parts of South Karnataka. The card was similar to a medical insurance product except that it gave the member a chance to avail various services of Manipal Academy of Higher Education affiliated hospitals, at a discount, for the annual fee of Rs. 140. Manipal Academy of Higher Education had 2 objectives while launching this product: • Achieve the compliance requirements set by the government on Manipal Academy of Higher Education. • Have a subscriber base of 1.2 lakhs at the end of the year to make the product profitable within 2 years. However the product launch managed to achieve a subscriber base of only 13,700 people. Manipal Academy of Higher Education came to GE Medical Systems to help them redesign and relaunch the scheme. 2.3 Project objectives and requirements Redesigning and relaunching of the Manipal Health Card in Mangalore and South Karnataka districts which will help in primarily raising the occupancy rate of the hospital as well as raise the outpatient traffic. This will result in additional revenue generation and compliance with MCI for Manipal Hospital. The secondary objective is to make the product self-sustaining financially within the next two years. The key stakeholders in this project are Manipal Hospital and GE Medical Systems. | en_US |
