dc.description.abstract | Motivation and interest in doing the problem “information needs of villagers” India is a country where nearly 70% of population lives in villages. Recently, here has been a noticeable migration of villagers towards cities and towns. But it has been a temporary cycle where they have been affected by droughts or uneconomic circumstances in a current year. They have always left the option of moving back to their villages after the end of this temporary phase. It shows that most of the villagers have managed to stick to their villages and relied on cultivation as their primary and only ource of earning. The major portion of Indian population (nearly 70%) living in villages census and studies have shown that there has been ry small correlation between the growth of India and development of villagers during s from ccessing the complete market information. The government failure in dissipating the s conforms to the fact that there has to be a strong correlation between growth of India and development of villagers. India has managed to grow at a rapid pace with a good portion of contribution of GDP coming from agriculture sector. It should signify that farmer community would have grown with it. But recent nation wide ve the years of economy boom1. They are still highly vulnerable to the climatic changes and sensitive to the social security needs. The above discussion has been indicative of the fact that there is a clear sign of government failure in understanding the social and economic needs of villagers and percolating the benefits of growth to the villagers Ideally information flow should be bidirectional where government as well villagers plays an equal part in dissipating the information. Even a unidirectional flow of information can help a great deal of improvement if it reaches to the villages without being tainted. The government failure has resulted in development of high motive intermediaries who have acted as an agent between the market and farmers. They have acted as a shield to prevent the farmes from ccessing the complete market information. The government failure in dissipating the information along with presence of high motive intermediaries has also prevented the benefits of growth and development from precipitating to the village community. As major portion of Indian population live in villages, they will play an instrumental role in the future growth and achievement of the country. This relevance can be drawn from C.K Prahalad work where he talks about the future growth will be determined by the bottom of the pyramid population. So it becomes highly relevant to study the present onditions of the villagers and determine their social and economic needs which have a ritical role in the development of the country. This is our one of the motivations to take Her politica , freedom of acquiring social opportunities, tran (1) izers in the market and knowledge about (2) cture availability and conditions (3) Power to communicate their views and logic about the current functioning of the formation to the villagers in most effective manner. The above problem definition has and deliver information system model that ould be used on a wide level once the feasibility of the model is understood and tested. c c up the study about the information needs of the farmers. e we define information need as ‘ information that will help the villagers in achieving l freedom, economic freedom sparency guarantees and protective security’. So information needs relate to The gaining of access of seeds and fertil the market of the final produce Knowing the information about social infrastru and criterion of their use government and to express their discontent. (4) Understanding the present government provisions and policies for the villagers Our area of interest lies in studying the present condition of farmers and understanding their social and economic needs. Here we connote the social and economic need by information needs. Here we propose to study the ‘information needs of villagers’ and develop an information system delivery model that will help | en_US |
