Samsung has already started making heavy inroads into the health care segment in India with their acquisitions and products and solutions offerings, and was interested in identifying the further opportunities potentially available in this segment. The paper first provides a brief summary of India s health care industry and the current trends in digital healthcare. It then provides a brief introduction on intelligent personal assistants and their potential relevance in personalizing health care. The subsequent sections discuss in detail about the market research conducted, and the potential opportunities identified as part of this study. The paper also identifies the gaps in Samsung capabilities pursuing the potential opportunities, and provides recommendations as to whom they can partner with, in order to be able to roll out a solution quickly into the market. To summarize our findings, we believe that the big private hospitals in India are not very keen or excited with the proposal of this intelligent personal assistant, as they have already invested in expensive Hospital management systems which facilitate a few use cases identified as part of the study. However, the doctors who are running a small Health clinic (mom-n-pop clinics) and small private hospitals (2-3 doctors working together) are very much interested and excited about the utility of intelligent personal assistants in their day-to-day tasks. An estimate of sales revenue for this application is provided using Bass Diffusion model for the next 20 years (sales estimates range from Rupees 1.7 Crores in 2015 to Rs. 562.5 crores in 2034). Based on our interactions with various doctors and the excitement we observed in them, and the subsequent analysis we performed, we give a solid GO for Samsung in pursing this opportunity. | URI: | http://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/123456789/9448 |
