dc.description.abstract | IOT has been a buzz word for a large part of this decade and with about 5 billion devices already in the market and an estimated 50 billion devices by 2020 the buzz is only going to get stronger. With the keen increase in interest in IOT by both the industry and the consumer it was only a matter of time before standards came into prominence during the discussions. There was a need for a standardized technology to connect IOT devices with each other and to the network. The first notable interest in developing standards for IOT was seen in 2013 by which significant development has already taken place. In this project we try to understand the current standards that exist in the industry, the standards that are being developed, the consortiums that are formed for this purpose and the key players that form a significant part of it. We also look at Aruba, an incumbent networking player and suggest a new product introduction, an IOT gateway product. Based on this we develop a set of recommendations involving the go-to market strategy, the current standards and the future standards it should adopt in order to capture a significant market share and position itself as a market leader in the industry. | |
