Title: | Devotion is the path to godliness | Authors: | Narayanswamy, Ramnath | Keywords: | Spirituality;Devotion;Divinity | Issue Date: | 2-Oct-2015 | Publisher: | The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited | Abstract: | It is devotion and devotion alone that is the surest and quickest route to experiencing divine bliss. Scholarship, pilgrimage to holy places, performing various rituals and other practices are admittedly useful in the divine scheme of things but it is devotion that constitutes the veritable gateway to God. The gopikas of Brindavan were not versed in the Vedas or in any other kind of scholarship. They did not study the scriptures and neither were they exposed to rituals. They only knew the name of Lord Krishna. Their infinite love for Him made them see Him in everything around them. Their pure hearts were unsullied by the ways the world; they were lost in their timeless devotion to the Lord. Every moment was lived for Krishna. Nothing else mattered. Such peerless devotion cannot but invite Divine Grace. Human intelligence is limited but God's play suffers from no limitation or blemish. If God assumes human form the human mind begins to complain that he is not God but a mere mortal. If He assumes his formless aspect, the human mind once again complains that God is not visible and begins to doubt his existence. Despite the many miracles that divine incarnations have performed from Lord Jesus to Lord Krishna, very few were able to recognise their divinity.
