Abstract: The internship offered a flavor of IT consulting and Cognizant culture. CBC has a very flexible and open work culture. Also, looking at the number of recruits from B-schools and Cognizant financial figures, it can be safely said that Cognizant is looking to expand aggressively. New recruits are offered the required freedom and opportunities very early on in their assignments. I interned with Energy &, Utilities sub-vertical of CBC. Cognizant is looking to expand its services to the Utility clients. I was assigned the task to study and understand the Work & Asset Management (WAM) business area of utility clients and the current challenges being faced by these companies and WAM in particular. Cognizant capabilities were assessed in this area relative to its other competitors. The intention behind the project was to find out about the market opportunities in this area and whether it s worthwhile for Cognizant to enter this market. The ERP solutions market is the area which is offering major chunk of new projects for WAM in utility clients. Also, recent developments indicate that there are a host of new companies offering innovative solutions in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) field solution services and Real Time Asset Management. IT service companies need to tie up with these niche software vendors to offer solutions to clients. The project mostly involved secondary research, and talks with Project guide and mentor for Cognizant related information.
