Abstract: I had been asked to study the role of private participation in the development of Indian Power Sector. Although, we were free to choose any sector of our choice from a list of about ten different sectors if the suggested sector was not of my interest To accomplish the job at hand, I was assigned a mentor having expertise il'l the said sector. My eight weeks of summer internship includes: *- Thorough study of tenth five-year plan and its prospects on power sector-in trrdia. • *- Study of policy framework and regulation, in 10th Five-year plan, to attract private player in power sector *- Study the actual progress of the project announced in 10th five year plan *- To dig out the reason why private participation in infrastructure development remainsab.ysmallylow *- Study the changes made in policy framework and regulation in 11th five year plan to ease private players to invest in power sector development *- To cO'mpare and contrast the actual development and progress of power sector project announced in 10th and 11th five year plan *- To identify the bottlenecks in the development of Indian power sector *- To identify the issues related with the fuel supply and fuel linkages and its impact on the Indian power sector's long term development projections *- To assess the world's coal demand and supply position vis-a-vis Indian situation *- Study the growth of power transmission sector in last two five-year plans *- To identify the bottlenecks in the growth of power transmission sector *- Policy framework to enthrall private players for power transmission sector in india *- To assess the actual status of private participation in power transmission sector in terms of growth in the private project in the sector *- To study anyone private power company (Adani Power in my case) in terms of projects executed, long-term growth plan, ability to execute power project in coming five-year plan, SWOT analysis, fund raising capabilities etc. *- To suggest recommendations to boost private sector participation in Indian infrastructure development and power sector development in particular.
