Title: | Accelerating Bhutan's Socio-economic development; McKinsey & Co. | Authors: | Vesuvala, Saska Cyrus | Keywords: | Economics;Socio-economic development;Orientation program | Issue Date: | 2010 | Publisher: | Indian Institute of Management Bangalore | Series/Report no.: | PGP_SP_P10_201 | Abstract: | Along with 14 other interns across 11M campuses, we were initially made to undergo a fast-track orientation program, to help us understand the basics of consulting and the McKinsey way of approaching a problem. Soon after, I joined my team in Bhutan, where I hit the ground running. ICT has been identified as a sector with tremendous potential for creation of jobs and contribution to GDP. The sector being a very wide one, I, along with my manager, analyzed the entire landscape of opportunities available, and then identified which ones Bhutan was in the best position to capture. Having done this initial analysis, we proceeded to do 2-3 "deep dives" around each of the identified opportunity areas. In the deep dive, we analyzed core competencies required to capture the opportunity, potential customers and what value proposition would need to-be pitched to them, etc. Client meetings (with the Secretary and a high level team from the Ministry of Information and Communications) were a regular occurrence, and this provided me with an interesting opportunity to go beyond cultural barriers, and advise the clients | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/16859 |
