Abstract: During the internship, I was allocated to private bank sales team under GBM Markets which sells products to private banks who in turn sell the same to individual customers. But the project of studying the Telecommunications Sector in South East Asia was entrusted by the credit research team. Apart from the project, I also received desk work from structured equity sales, liquid market sales, and private bank sales. The tasks included formulating trade ideas weekly and preparing brochures based in the trade ideas to sell RBS products. I also prepared an excel tool which helped to structure a product according to client requirements and then price the same. The tool is being used by the relationship managers to understand the product and also, by the team to actually customize a product according to client requirements. I was also a part of the group which did a study on the feasibility of a separate NRI desk within Private Bank Sales and presented the findings to the team. I also prepared a tool for private bank sales team to identify forward arbitrage opportunities and utilize the same to lock in profits. In addition to these, I also undertook several tasks like preparing daily commentary on currency and commodities market, identifying the impact of EU debt crisis on the US, Gulf Oil Spill and the possible aftermaths, IMF Factsheet etc. Overall, the internship consisted of a variety of tasks which gave an exposure to several desks and their functioning and also gave an opportunity to network with people belonging to different functional domains.
