dc.description.abstract | Larsen & Toubro Ltd. was found by Soren K. Toubro and Henning H. Larsen while they were working in India for the cement machinery manufacturing company F.L. Smidth & Co. in 1938. L & T started off under the joint leadership of these two engineers as a dairy machinery importing company. Later on, the company started to indigenise its business and also. diversified into ship repairing activities. In 1944, the Engineering Construction Corporation (ECC) was incorporated, and L&T got associated with the earth moving equipment giant Caterpillar. L&T became public in 1950 and is today an Engineering giant with operations in almost all core industries. Its large, diversified activities span an impressive spectrum of products and services, each highly reputed in its own field for sophistication and reliability. In a cover article of Business world (12-25 August 1992) about India’s ten most respected companies, based on a poll conducted by MARG, L & T was adjudged the second most respected company in the overall rating, and the first in the field of General Engineering. | |
