The company wanted to enter the diamond cutters market in the construction industry. The readiness of the construction industry to accept the new products(circular saws, wire saws, core drills) was to be found out and market characteristics and certain hypotheses were to be tested for the 4" saw blade. The construction industry uses circular saws (12"-16") to cut grooves on concrete roads. The demand for these blades is estimated at 200 per year (no breakup on sizes are available) 100mm and 150mm drills are used in the construction of bridges and flyovers. Wire saws are used in cutting all types of concrete structures. The demand for both these products are miniscule. In the 4" blade market the following were the major findings- Consumption of blades is presently 170,000 per month Product finds use on types of stones Product price varies largely by supply and availability.
