In the post liberalised scenario, Bangalore has emerged as a centre of attraction for all multinationals as well as tourists coming into India. Even domestic companies have shifted their base to Bangalore. With Bangalore emerging as a major hub in the domestic aviation system, the demand for spokes (feeder lines) to other expanding centres in south India is fast increasing. With airlines being slowly deregulated, the “industry remains in a transition phase. Carriers are continuing to expand and reorganise their route structures into hub configurations, resulting in a more efficient use of aircraft resources, as well as improved convenience for a broad spectrum of air travellers. Deregulation has brought fares more in tune with the true cost of providing service. Business travellers have benefited from increased flight frequency. New carrier entries appear to be checking the market power of the erstwhile monopoly, Indian Airlines.
