dc.description.abstract | The world has traditionally relied on fossil fuels for its energy generation needs. However with technological advancements and increasing green house emissions, the international focus has shifted to clean sources of energy. Wind energy generated from wind turbines is at the forefront of this movement. Wind power provides an advantage as it is produced by winds which are abundant, renewable, clean and widely distributed over the globe. This also reduces the inter-dependencies of countries for power and energy supply. It is also a cost effective and sustainable method to produce energy unlike conventional sources of energy like coal and natural gasi. Wind Power generation which started in the 1990s in India, has been significantly increasing in the last few years as demand for clean electricity generation is on the rise. With depleting fossil fuel resources, the demand for Wind Power is expected to increase in the future. Suzlon, an Indian wind power company based in Pune, India, is the fourth largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world in terms of installed capacity. Suzlon has a presence in over 33 countries across 6 continentsii. Suzlon generates more than 50% of the total wind power generated in India. | |
