dc.description.abstract“70% of the children in India cannot read a paragraph of text in their own mother tongue” goes avideo on Indian Education, citing Pratham’s ASER study1. There is a reason why this system is failing. The goal of this study is, hence, to analyse the efficiency of the public schooling system in India, qualitatively and quantitatively. In the process, we hope to arrive at actionable items to improve thestandard of the schools. We also hope to identify to public policy shortcomings if any and contributein that regard. As to measuring the efficiency of a School, we wonder which metric should be used to calculate thesame. A result would help us understand what quantifiable metric, if any, contributes to making aschool efficient. We look at a range of human and physical infrastructure to explore alternativeimplications of simple decisions.
