dc.description.abstractIndia holds the close second to China, when it comes to food production and farm output. It isranked first in the world with its annual production of 100 million tonnes of milk, ranked secondin fruit and vegetables segment with 155 million tonnes and third biggest in food -grains with220 million tonnes of annual production.Apart from production, India is also one of the biggest in terms of food consumption.Domestically, food and food- products are the largest product segments in terms of overallconsumption and contribute more than 21% of the national GDP. The overall market size is tothe tunes of $200 billion and is estimated to surpass $258 billion by the year 2015 and $344billion by 2025 with a CAGR of 4.1%.ii Total consumer expenditure on agricultural products alone is estimated to escalate to $175 billion by year 2015.
