dc.description.abstract | Since the liberalization of Indian economy in early 1990s, the share of service sector in our GDP has been growing rapidly as compared to manufacturing and agriculture. This growth has slowly transformed Indian economy into a knowledge based economy. The evolution of knowledge based economy is further fueled by an ever increasing demand of skilled manpower. When seen from an industrial perspective, both service and manufacturing sectors require an unending supply of people and their demand for higher level of specific skills is constantly increasing. These specific skill sets can be imbibed into people relatively easily if they have a practical mindset from the primary stages of their education. It is in this context where vocational education and training combined with regular school education comes into picture. | |
