Over the past few years cities has grown rapidly but the infrastructure hasnot often been able to keep pace. Most of the developing countries are now facingproblems of high commuting hours, thereby impacting productivity. The millions of vehicleshitting the road are also massively contributing to GHG emissions. In such a scenario, cycling has emerged as a growing trend in urban mobility, thanks to itsmultiple benefits. The humble bicycle has grown from being a vehicle of transport for thepoor to being the vehicle of choice for the environmentally concerned and responsibleperson. Apart from the health benefits it provides to the otherwise inactive urban lifestyle,it is also the least polluting of all transport options currently available.Currently the Indian road infrastructure is yet to fully adopt the concept of cycling lanes. There is also a large gap in the adoption of cycling among the masses. Even for traversingsmall distances, people still use a motorized vehicle which not only adds to the pollution butalso clog up the already choking traffic networks. An under developed public transport alsoadds to the woes. But several organizations have started adopting cycles in their campuses.Through this study we aim to improve the usage of cycle within the IIM Bangalore campusand subsequently build a replicable model for other communities. With this CCS, we aim to study the motivations behind cycling and the various alternativeswhich can be implemented to promote cycling. We intend to identify what sustainablemodel will work and how will it typically work along with issues/concerns arising out of thesame, if any. We will try to conduct some experiments; try to answer organizationalquestions of how we introduce the program and what factors we need to take care. Wewould finally come up with a recommendation for the same. The scope of this project ispeople within IIM community. | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/18918 |
