Exports of auto component and readiness of Indian SME to meet recall and product liability requirements of OEM and Tier 2 suppliers

Abstract

This research work consists of in-depth interviews of four Founder-CEOs of Indian auto component SMEs and one senior executive of Indian insurance giant. Through this research work, an attempt has been made to understand the perspectives/issues of tier 2 Indian auto component SME suppliers with respect to product recall and liability norms. We tried to see if Insurance can provide some of the answers to the issues. Further, an attempt has been made to understand key enabling factors to increase the exports from SME suppliers of auto components. A detailed report on academic and literature survey done on these topics of SME sector in India, Indian auto components SME status & performance, product liability and recall is provided as midterm review report of this research project. Key points from the study are presented in the subsequent sections of this report.
