dc.description.abstract | “Bangalore may be in for another `GAYLE-storm’ tonight, but what should I do tomorrow?”, Ravindra Pai wondered. He was finding it difficult to concentrate on his preparations for tomorrow’s meeting. From his corner office in the 4th floor of the Prestige Feroze building on Cunningham Road, Ravindra Pai could clearly see the huge flood lights that towered over the Chinnaswamy Stadium. In a few hours the lights would be on and stadium would come alive as the Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Royal Challengers had had a rejuvenation mid-way through the last season after the arrival of Chris Gayle as a substitute. Known for his big hitting, he had helped turned the tide for the Royal Challengers who suddenly found themselves as serious contenders for the Indian Premier League title with a formidable team which, besides Chris Gayle, also included the young and upcoming Virat Kohli, the swashbuckling Sri Lankan Tillakratne Dilshan, the ever dependable Abbie de Villiers and the smart Zaheer Khan. P.Ravindra Pai was the Managing Director of Century Real Estate. He had joined his family’s real estate business a few years back and had overseen their growth from land dealings and joint realty development to a company which had hired professional staff and had now entered the construction business. Century’s growth had coincided with the phenomenal rise of the real estate sector. With huge land holdings, Ravindra Pai’s vision was clear: how soon and how well can I monetize my assets? It was this question that was in his mind that afternoon. The meeting next day concerned Century’s latest project, Project Koruna at Yelahanka, Bangalore. It was decision time and Century needed to decide whether to proceed in this project in the existing conventional method of construction or to adopt the new alternative of construction using prefabricated slabs. It was 6pm and the match was still a couple of hours away. Ravindra Pai would be enjoying the match from one of the corporate boxes along with some of his close friends. He could afford to spend another hour at the office. He decided to go through the papers in front of him one more time. | |
