Abstract: This Contemporary Concerns Study report is based on our research of sports in India and the issues that prevent India from being a sporting-powerhouse on the global stage. We have focussed on India’s general inability to perform well in major international multisport events like the Olympics and the Asian Games. We have tried to identify the major factors that influence sporting performance globally and map the relevant correlations in the Indian context. This report highlights both the independent research carried out by the authors in this respect and the work that has been done jointly with Winning Matters Consulting. We have critically examined the Sports Performance Assessment Report for States – 2011 – published by Winning Matters in association with FICCI. While the ultimate aim of our research is to come up with the next edition of that report - Sports Performance Assessment Report for States – 2012, this study covers the ground-work done in preparation for the same.
