Abstract: The word retail is born from a French word “Retailer” which translates to break bulk. It essentially means buying and selling of products (Goods & Services) to end customers on a firsthand basis. It involves end-to-end coordination of activities with customers for an offering that is demanded by the market. It also involves after sales service and receiving feedback from customers. Most of the economic growth across globe in the past 2-3 decades is mainly contributed by retail industry and increasing cash flow into the businesses. This sector’s performance is directly linked with the consumer welfare. Retailers apart from delivering goods to end users, provide demand projections to the suppliers for better planning and production. Better performances through linkages of retailing services impacts other sectors like tourism, manufacturing of consumers goods, agri produce industries. Organized retail is a form of retailing where consumers could buy products from a similar environment across more than one physical location. It is growing as more of an experience characterized by customer delight, comfort and shopping aesthetics. Modern retail is one form under organized retail which consists of supercenters, retail chains etc.
