dc.description.abstract | India has a heritage of handloom weaving which is largest in the world. But that is dying because of lack of awareness from the customer and competition from cheaper, rip-off versions of handloom that are sub-par in its quality. At policy level, conditions have also been unfavourable as these skilled labourers are encouraged to migrate and adopt unskilled jobs like construction and day wage jobs in bad working conditions. There is a need for a private player to intervene and take these Indian Fabrics to the world markets. Today, the world is moving towards machine-free, green fabrics which is possible with the hand-woven Industry. The domestic market also has a huge consumer base for the product. While we work on one side with the communities, our effort is mainly on the demand side where we are trying various channels of market linkage innovatively to maximize the returns of every stakeholder in the value chain. Fabric Monde works with weaver cooperatives who produce handloom products and connects them to large brands and urban markets. Their intervention is in terms of product innovation, design and supply chain efficiency." As the company profile says, Fabric Monde engages itself with weavers all around the country and is actively having 14 states working along it. It stands out with the speciality of engaging only handloom fabrics with its authentic designs and quality. Fabric Monde, thus has successfully entailed a good clientele profile that includes Globus, Anita Dongre, TrueBlue, Raymonds, Vero Moda and more. Fabric Monde is a step forward to a sustainable world of fashion that is the need of the hour, along which it offers a great zeal of handloom products with better quality, reasonable pricing of bulk quantities promising on time delivery with a great customer service and fabric consultation. Fabric Monde works on addressing market linkage for 95 weaver units out of 4859 leads from across 16 states within the first year of establishment. They are a sourcing partner for 30+ brands and hope to grow this portfolio to 350 brands in the next year. “There are many start-ups in the area of handlooms and sustainable fashion, but they are based on the B2C model. The real challenge lies in sourcing these fabrics for all the small and large labels,” says Jyothi, CEO, Co-Founder. | |
