Abstract

Kanpur, formerly Cawnpore, is a city in Uttar Pradesh, located in the state's southwest-central region. Kanpur, located on the eternal Ganga banks, is a major industrial center in North India with historical, religious, and commercial significance. Kanpur was initially known as 'Kanhpur" and is thought to have been founded by king Hindu Singh of the erstwhile state of Sachendi. Jajmau, on the eastern outskirts of modern-day Kanpur, is historically considered one of Kanpur's most archaic townships. Kanpur is a vital part of India's road and rail system. Kanpur has benefited from its fertile agricultural hinterland in the Upper Ganga Valley and the Bundelkhand plateau and developed transportation links and the industrial demand stimulant of World War II. Even though there is a small proportion of irrigated land in this city, the density is high due to the high concentration of industry.
