Abstract: Through this report, we wish to analyse the public healthcare systems across different states in India, with a focus on following health outcomes: maternal mortality, under 5 mortality and life expectancy. Prima Facie, we observe wide variations in the aforementioned metrics across different states in India, in spite of many centrally sponsored schemes like National Health Mission, Janani Suraksha Yojana, and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, specifically aimed at improving the above-mentioned metrics. To understand these differences, we propose to analyse the health inputs which directly impact these health outcomes, including- access to health infrastructure; availability of skilled man power, and state expenditure on health. Our approach would a quantitative analysis to assess reach and availability of health care delivery mechanisms, along with their efficient utilization.
