A temporal study of supply chain of cold chain in india

Abstract

CHAPTER 1:- The current state of indian supply chain of cold chain. In this Chapter untitled “The current state of Indian Supply Chain of Cold Chain” we will first define in the User part what is the Cold Chain and what are the differences with the traditional Supply Chain. We will introduce then in the User part the players (Modern Trade Segment and eCommerce) of this Cold Chain and study the Environment, using the categorization and benchmarking tools. Secondly we will focus on the needs and stakes of this Cold Chain in India. Indeed this market is currently developing in the country, especially for the eCommerce segment, and we need to define the major stakes in order to see what have already be done and what innovation could be interesting to bring to this Cold Chain segment. In the Third part we will study the encountered problems that the Indian Cold Chain faces today, for both Modern Trade Segment and eCommerce segments. This part would serve as a basis for the next Chapters in order to resolve these issues and to propose innovations to improve this Cold Chain. CHAPTER 2:- Bibliographical analysis of the encountered problems about cold chain in ecommerce and MTS. Bibliographical researches turn out to be complicated to organize: indeed the scientific literature is very important on this subject, from international to India specific literature. Keywords must be used – in English but French too – in order to find articles that deal directly with this subject, with developed ideas and solutions that can help on the cold chain subject. Scientific articles have been targeted in priority and represent the majority of the bibliography, with as a complement articles, reviews, books and studies which focus also on the cold chain but which are not classified as scientific. Databases have been used for the research: GoogleScholar, Sciencedirect or Web of Science for instance. Reviews as Nielsen or KPMG studies have been used also to build this case study. On the other hand, field survey have not been realized, although contacts with Flipkart company. Therefore bibliographical research are based on a large selection of articles and reviews which are not only focused on the cold chain subject in India, but that are still mentioning its use and the issues and solutions for this latter in the English or French literature. CHAPTER 3:- key innovations that grocery e-commerce in India should leverage. Online grocery retail has not yet disrupted the grocery-retailing model. Today the online grocery spending are about 6-7% for the United Kingdom market, 5% for the US and French market and less than 2% in the other countries. Nevertheless a Nielsen survey stated that 37% of Asian online shoppers have already ordered online groceries, 24% more than in Europe. Furthermore with the categorization previously done that has showed what Indian customers want regardless of price, format and quality in order to meet customers, eCommerce players need to encourage shoppers to choose this online grocery option. Digital innovations will be a key driver to this impulse in order to meet customer needs. This is why in this last part, digital innovation will be proposed to solve the Last Mile problem, which is a main concern for the cold commodities. Moreover several innovations that are currently used in Occidental countries or that are currently discussed will be proposer in this part. Therefore these key innovations will be separated in 3 mains parts: storage innovation, transport innovation and delivery innovation (mainly focused on Last Mile).
