dc.description.abstract | Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) spread across Bangalore with its two lines operating East-West (Purple line) and North-South (Green line). The central hub, intersecting the two lines, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic), is currently facing the issue of uncontrolled movement of commuters. The station has installed signages at multiple locations, but commuters still find it confusing and prefer to ask the staff members of BMRCL available at the spot. The station uses different signages to tackle the issue, but the issue persists. To understand the issue, we did our primary research at two-level – first through on-site visits and observing the source of the problem, second through interaction with the commuters to understand the problem from their perspective. To validate our findings, we conducted an experimental study for the effectiveness of signages and commuters’ knowledge about the platforms. The study involved asking students from IIM Bangalore to travel from point A to point B (via Majestic) in Metro and analysing their problems during travel. Through commuters’ responses, observational study, and results from the study we suggested recommendations in the position, information, and addition of signages. We have also considered future aspects in terms of the ongoing development in the metro lines (and stations). We have not done the pilot implementation given the time constraints; however it is expected that with the implementation of the recommendations we will be able to streamline the commuters movement through Kempegowda interchange metro station. | |
