The problem chosen for the study is the optimization of the first-mile pick-up process to improve the speed to mother hub. Based on the field visits and data obtained, the various inefficiencies in the process were identified. We have utilized some secondary data models and benchmarking methods to propose recommendations for process improvement across six major areas. Ranging from operational changes like introducing Pseudo pick-up hubs for clusters, to tactical decisions like reducing pick-up hub capacity, the report illustrates the key recommendations, their impact on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the risk associated with its implementation. For most of our recommendations, we suggest implementing a pilot version over one cluster to capture the process change required. For implementation, the cost aspects and the aspects of process redesign should be considered. These changes would improve the speed to pick-up hub and mother hub, thus impacting the speed to customer.
