Abstract: According to a report, Global Online Education Market by Research and Markets, the global online education market is expected to reach a market size of $286.62 billion by 2023 from $159.52 billion in 2017. As per a KPMG study, the online education market in India is expected to reach $1.96 billion in 2021. The paid user base is expected to grow to 9.5 million users by 2021i . Online learning can be classified into two categories –asynchronous and synchronous learning. Asynchronous learning happens when students can follow the coursework in a self-paced manner according to their own schedules. There is no live interaction with the teachers or fellow students. Synchronous learning happens when students can learn and collaborate at the same time on an online platform. Various tools such as chat rooms and video conferencing are being used to create a virtual classroom experience that fosters student interactions on the online platform. The major focus of the project is on studying digital learning models and their learning outcomes. In order to understand the ecosystem, I interviewed people who are working in the digital learning industry, students, faculty and entrepreneurs. I have studied the following three categories of digital learning models – MOOCs, K-12 learning models and Professional Training. I have studied the SWAYAM initiative undertaken by the Indian government. I have also studied a few other models that are emerging to enable content driven edtech companies. I have tried to understand the way ahead for digital learning and how will online models evolve to drive positive change for education. Most of the examples in the study are from the Indian market. However, a few models from the international market have also been discussed
