dc.description.abstract | Infant mortality is the death of young children under the age of 1. This death toll is measured by the infant mortality rate (IMR), which is the number of deaths of children under one year of age per 1000 live births [1]. Under-five mortality rate (also called child mortality rate), is also an important statistic. It includes the mortality rate of children under five years of age. Premature birth is the main reason behind IMR. Other medical reasons behind IMR are asphyxia, term birth complications, congenital malformations etc. The medical reasons behind IMR are heightened by the socio economic factors. The socio economic factors include medical and political infrastructure of a country, sanitation levels, environmental conditions, education etc. Infant mortality has a very strong negative correlation with a country’s GDP, higher GDP means lower infant mortality rate | |
