With the advent of the Make-in-India program, initiated by the newly elected government, India is poised to utilize its demographic dividend in order to become a manufacturing hub. However, before this can be achieved, the issue of imparting skills training to the workforce has to be addressed. This project aims to look at the various Skill Training programs present globally, compare them to the requirements of the Indian economy and especially to automotive sector, and then finally looking at the current “Skill India” program. Since the program should aim to adopt best practices while tailoring them to Indian circumstances, the project also deals with how existing systems can be modified so that the skill training targets can be met.
