The construction industry in India plays a major role in the economic development of the country. It contributes about 8% to the country’s GDP (2011-12 figures) and is the second largest source of employement, agriculture being the first. The industry is highly fragmented with a large number of players across all the segments and value chain. The construction industy has seen escalating costs and delays in projects. The supply chain remains an unstudied area in the Indian construction industy. Further there is a lack of documentation of the numerous processes and activities in the supply chain of the construction industry in relation to the real estate industry.
