dc.description.abstract | From 1927 onwards, with the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, Bangalore (now Bengaluru) began to be known as the “Garden City of India”. Several projects such as the construction of parks, public buildings and hospitals were instituted to improve the city. The title suits the city because of its gentle climate, broad streets, greenery and the presence of many public parks. Over time, Bangalore has become the nation's leading information technology (IT) exporter and is rightly called as the “Silicon Valley on India”. Its other names include "Pub Capital of India" or the "Rock/Metal Capital of India" because of its underground music scene and it is one of the premier places to hold international rock concerts. Bangalore is well-known for its two biggest parks – Cubbon Park and Lal Bagh. The next in rank is the J P Park and is in operation since the last ten years. The focus of this report is to understand how the park came into existence. With the city moving towards development of IT firms, we would discuss the steps taken to create the park and its evolution. The current facilities available at the J P Park, along with its problems and recommendations will be presented. | |
