It is expected that by the end of 2014, 4.55 billion people will be using mobile phones globally. In a recent report by Silicon-India magazine, it is reported that the number of active mobile phones will increase to 7.3 billion, exceeding the world’s population. However, this does not mean that everyone in the planet will use a mobile phone, rather it indicates the usage of multiple phones by people in developing countries. Russia leads the trend with 1.8 times more mobile phones than the population, followed by Brazil with 1.2 times more mobile phones. India is the second largest country in terms of no of mobile phone connections, but the penetration level is low compared to other countries. According to Gartner report, the number of mobile connections in India will grow by 8% in 2014 to touch 815 million, which is 65% of the country’s population. With the increase in the penetration of mobile technology in India, a plethora of business opportunities arises for business entities. Innovative business processes, cost efficient marketing campaigns and new business opportunities become possible with the help of new technologies that can be developed on this mobile network. Thus a study of existing technologies and usage in the countries can enable to understand the Indian consumers and to develop new applications with mobile phones. | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/20499 |
