Oral healthcare is an important aspect of an individual’s health. There is a growing number of fashion sentient urban population leading to growing demand for cosmetic dentistry. India is a hot spot for medical tourism, of which 10 % is comprised of dental tourism. The Indian medicinal services business sector is one of the largest sector contributing 2 percent to the nation's GDP. India's business sector for dental industry is currently assessed to grow at a rate of between 25% to 30%. As per the Indian Dental Association (IDA) the general dental industry including items and hardware is set to reach $100 billion by 2015 from the current $65 billion and is anticipated to hit $250 billion by 20201.In India, the dentist population ratio is reported to be 1:9000 dentists in metros/urban and 1:200000 dentists in the rural area, showing that this sector is highly unorganized. An estimated of 40-50 percent of Indian populace has never gone to a dental practitioner. Also, almost 70 percent of populace is experiencing dental illnesses2. So this industry holds a high potential. As there are limited employment opportunities for dentists in public sector, most of the dentists in India operate out of standalone clinics. | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/20605 |
