dc.description.abstract | India has the third largest army in the world. Yet, 60 percent of the demand of the defense sector is met through imports. With defense being extremely critical for a country's security, this statistic highlights an extremely dismal situation. Hence, defense manufacturing is very crucial to the 'Make in India' initiative. The study conducted involved a top down approach of research, drilling down from the 'Make in India' initiative to defense manufacturing in India taking into account a holistic view of the practices prevalent in the major defence manufacturing hubs of USA, UK, China, France, Germany and Israel. The report concludes with recommendations to develop the domestic defence industry in view of the recently promulgated Defence Procurement Procedure 2016. | |
