dc.description.abstractIndia Post operates under the Department of Posts (DoP) and offers postal services in India. The DoP is a part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Government of India. It is regarded as having the most widely distributed postal network in the world with 1,54,939 post offices present across India, of which 1,39,222 (89.9%) are located in rural areas1. On an average, a post office serves about 6,258 people in the rural areas and 26,922 people in the urban areas. The services offered by India Post include mail delivery, life insurance schemes under Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI), savings deposit schemes, retail services like bill collection, sale of forms, etc, and disbursement of wages (under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) and old age pensions to the citizens of India. The current report focuses on the mail products offered by India Post and attempts to analyze the product portfolio. It recommends product rationalization by benchmarking the services with the same provided by other postal organizations across the world.
