Abstract: We intended to study the manufacturing competitiveness of India and compare the distinct advantages or the lack of it against its global peers and Asian counterparts. As an objective, we shall be identifying the key drivers which enable a certain country to be manufacturing friendly. Once these factors are identified, India shall be evaluated in its performance/capability on these factors vis-à-vis its competitors. On studying these factors, special attention shall be paid to parameters that influence the cost of manufacturing - Labour costs, productivity factors, regulatory costs, investment costs, tax structures, ease of doing business, etc., - and how these play out in the individual countries, against the macroeconomic climate in these countries. The gaps shall be identified in the current state in India and way forward shall be discussed.
