The model has evolved and has become more promotionally driven, thus accentuating the volume aspect and putting pressures on the supply chain and demand forecasting. Promotions and their impact vary vastly and with the fixed storage capacity of the stores, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure timely availability of optimum stock levels and mixes. Hence forecasting becomes very important.
