With a maturing population pyramid that is bulging in the middle, and the country slated to become the world’s youngest nation by 2020, we are presented with a golden opportunity to leapfrog India into the league of high-income countries. However, missing the tide would result in a burgeoning population of unemployed and unskilled youth, turning the demographic dividend into a demographic nightmare. Thus, a focus on skilling the youth and making them employable is crucial. Through the course of this project, we identified gaps between the policy and implementation of the structure of Skill Training in the country. We have analyzed the reasons behind the problems being faced in the process, and have attempted to make recommendations that the government can look into for achieving its targets, leading India towards a brighter and more successful future.
