Circular economies and biodiversity conservation

Abstract

Bangalore is the global epicentre of the service sector and has been the focus of megainfrastructure development including roads, highways, metro projects and SEZs. This has led to almost a doubling of the city area over the past 10 years. This rapid urbanization and growing population has put extreme pressure on the city’s resources including natural, economic and infrastructure. The benefits of this development has not reached the full population. Approximately 43% of the population still lives in poverty. The marginalized sections of the society are subject to water scarcity, poor living conditions, localized floods etc. Climate change and fragmented governance issues will only make the situation worse.
