Internet of things (IoT)- privacy concerns in India & Europe

Abstract

Internet of Things or a group of networks is a varied combination of different technologies including the artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing. The usage of IoT is continuously increasing at a rapid rate in all the sectors in all the geographies of the world. This is because the usage of oT creates a scenario of symbiosis for all the stakeholders and makes it easy for tracking. But since the usage of IoT involves a lot of personal data, it is pertinent that privacy issues creep out among the users. Also due to the advancements of the technology multiples issues arises while using IoT including the security, cybercrime, interoperability, legal, regulatory and rights issues. Deep diving into the privacy issues, some of these related to loT includes integrity of data, captivity of data,security of data, and traceability of data. These privacy concerns are almost uniform throughout India and Europe apart from few concerns related to India because of additional challenges of infrastructure and lack of standardization in India. To tackle these privacy issues, the governments are taking substantial measures. Indian government has initiated the Draft loT Policy and National Digital Communications Policy especially pertaining to loT. If we look at the European government, the policies around IoT includes the European GDPR, and the Cybersecurity Act.
