Title: | Book Review: Noise - A flaw in human judgement by Daniel Kahneman | Authors: | Dhiman, Jatin | Keywords: | Human judgement;Decision making | Issue Date: | 2021 | Publisher: | Indian Institute of Management Bangalore | Series/Report no.: | PGP_CCS_P21_219 | Abstract: | Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgement is a book by Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony and Cass Sunstein that was published in 2021. It focuses on an often overlooked kind of error in judgement and decision makjng, i.e., Noise. The focus of this report is to present a thorough and crisp description of the book and critically analyze the style and components of the text. The book is divided into parts with each of them focusing on a different aspect like establishing a djfference between noise and bias, describing the roles of noise and bias in measuring errors, understanding predictive judgement in detail, causes of noise, how to improve judgements by noise reduction and optimal level of noise. I have tried to understand what the author wants to convey to the reader by employing such an approach and breakdown the important aspects that are discussed in every section. The report provides a critical commentary of the text and tries to understand if the objectives that are set by the authors are achieved or not. It focuses on what are the things that are perfectly presented and what could have been done in a better way. It evaluates the book on multiple aspects and arrives at a concluding argument on whether to read the book. | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/21726 |
