Regulations, policies, risks and key drivers for infrastructure sector in India: ICICI Bank Ltd.

Abstract

In the current scenario, the Indian as well as global economy is witnessing greater pace of changes in terms of technology developments, changes in consumption pattern, social and industrial upheaval, environment impact & protection focus, policy and regulatory changes by the government etc. The focus of this report is on some highly regulated industries like infrastructure, mining etc. The aim of this project will be to study the salient features pertaining to those industries and analyze their challenges, growth drivers, and scope of attracting investment. This would immensely help the bank in calculating the risks involved in investing in the companies operating in these industries and also adopt subsequent risk mitigating options. The information gathered would be useful in credit lending decision making, local and global competition scenario mapping and perceivable future regulatory actions. The areas of work include gathering of information on segments of the infrastructure sector (power, telecom, airports, ports, roads and mining) which are highly regulated. This is followed by an analysis of the gathered data so as to cull out irrelevant information or trends of current and future government regulations and policies which would help the bank in taking appropriate investment decisions in future.
